Publishing : This refers to the profession or business of preparing and printing books, magazines, CD-ROMS etc and selling or making them available to the public e.g. Evans Brothers is a reputable publishing company. ii. Manuscript : Copy of a book, piece of music etc before it has been printed or a very old book or document that was written by hand before printing e.g.  The author has sold his manuscript to a publishing outfit. ii. Reader : a worker in a publishing house who reads a manuscript to see if it will appeal to the public. i. Direct and Indirect Speech  Direct speech refers to the quoting by a speaker or writer, of the actual utterance of another speaker or writer. It contains all the actual words used by the original speaker.         Things to Note About Direct Speech a. After the subject (speaker) and the verb, put a comma. b. Put quotation marks before you start writing the first words of each speech c. Write in capital the first letter of the first words of each speech d. Put the appropriate punctuation mark at the end of the speech. e.g, a full stop, a    question mark, or an exclamation mark. e. Close the speech with a quotation mark. Rules Governing Indirect Speech a. After mentioning the speaker (subject) and the verb, the reported speech is introduced with conjunction ‘ that ; where appropriate. b. Narrative Essay A narrative essay is a written account of an imaginary or real event in the past. This involves detailed explanation and orderly arrangement of the storyline or incidents. Basic Features 1. The title is boldly written in capital letters ( preferably) 2. The past tense is used in expression. 3. There should be vivid description of events. 4. The events should be orderly/ chronologically arranged and properly linked together. 5. The paragraph should be well developed and embellished with figurative language, proverbs etc. to make it interesting. (Perotomode, 2012). This definition implies that the boss may not necessarily be the leader. This, however, does not preclude the fact that the boss who is the head by virtue of the position he or she occupies cannot transit to become a leader.
